outie vs outie

While my navel stretches and temperamentally flips between innie, half-innie, crater-innie and flat, sisterQ has just returned home from gall bladder surgery and is the proud owner of a fully inverted, swollen outie belly button - the result of one of four incisions created to do the surgery.

Any whining on my part of an itchy pregnant navel gets a rather cool reception.

Poor sisterQ had to go through quite a bit before getting her defunct organ removed: testing was negative, inconclusive, negative, really-are-you-sure-something's-wrong, maybe-it's-your-stomach, etc etc etc.

She finally went for testing that showed her gall bladder was down to some insignificant amount of functionality, and so it could come out. The fact that she and soon-to-be brother-in-lawQ had to travel 2-3 hours before and after her day surgery in some rather vicious winter conditions wasn't exactly an added bonus, but the deed is done, the defunct appendage has been removed and she now sits, oh-so idly, on her couch and contemplates her navel.

She phoned me after work today just to tell me all about it.

I spend enough time staring at my stomach but SisterQ now has two weeks at home to do nothing but that.

I think I'll be getting a lot of phone calls.
